You have in front of you a brief description of the personality and activities of the Haulage Road Transport Confederation, CETM, which is the main transport business organisation in our country and number one in Europe by its amount of members and vehicles.

Haulage transport represents 6% of G.N.P (Gross National Product) and 4.1% G.A.V. (Gross Added Value) in our economy. More than 80% of all goods transport is done by road. Our sector employs directly more than one million people. So, it is a first rate strategic sector in the socio-economic state network, and the main way out for goods and services to the European continent.

Our main objective is to defend the interests of transport businessmen. That is why professionals comprised in our national and regional associations are ceaselessly active in all the public and private organizations, which have a direct or indirect relation with our sector, affecting in a decisive way in their policies.

However, the philosophy that encourages our confederation goes even further from this activity. So, we are firmly convinced about the fact that training is one of the challenges that we must face every day, because it is the base of good business management and the searching of competitiveness in this global village that is Europe.

Offering new services to our members makes up another of our aims. Our just created Telematic and Services Centre already provides our transports businessmen useful tools for their daily work, with the clear objective of reducing costs and increasing information/training and competitiveness.

We have finished an important stage for goods road transport, with the set off of a Ministerial Order that comes to regulate the liberalisation of our sector, and in a short time, a five year strategic plan that will set up the definitive bases for its best development, will be defined. It is clear that we still have problems to solve and new challenges to reach. We search for real and positive solutions every day.

Haulage is, as it should not be otherwise, the service of society. This is, definitively, our last goal and our real vocation.
